Imitation
A partnership between Emma Harling Studio, and Parma Tile. Drawing inspiration from Emma Harling’s native Sweden, Imitation reintroduces techniques commonly seen on 18th century tile stoves and decorative paintings. Through the application of speckles, splatter, and brush strokes, surfaces were decorated with the intent of imitating marble and stone. This ceramic tile recontextualizes the historic motif with its modern colors, and contemporary bisque. Each of the five colorways references the naturally occurring hues of Sweden’s west coast, where Harling grew up, muted greens, soft neutrals, and mineral tones inspired by weathered stone, sand, and lichen-covered cliffs.
