SAMMA branding, 2024-25

Hanna Sandin is a sculptor based in New York City. She began SAMMA in 2009, a line of jewelry defined by a stripped down vocabulary of modular form. Elemental lines and simplified shapes in brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver — combine. Patterns based on stacking, bundling, interlocking, and weaving primary shapes make tactile, sculptural pieces. Repetition is broken by slight variations, either in color or in structure, lending a warmth and individual touch. Seriality and standardized construction are the basis of a lexicon of shapes and materials that reference both modernism and vernacular forms of adornment.

I worked with Hanna on adding two branding patterns inspired by her modular jewelry forms, currently used as gift wrap. They also speak of her Brooklyn studio space, which is filled with nets, stacks, grids and interlacing structures. Additionally, we identified a new signature backdrop color to complement the tones of Hanna’s material choices.
